Sr. Opto-Mechanical Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design opto-mechanical components, modules, and subassemblies to manipulate laser energy.

 

Responsible for the complete design process, including generating requirements, specification, conducting design reviews, feasibility studies, risk mitigation activities, and managing cost and scheduling.

 

Procurement of prototype parts, manage BOMs, prototype build and testing.

 

Work with optical, mechanical and industrial design firms, and lead the integration effort.

 

Create design documentation including optical and mechanical drawings with specifications and tolerances, and develop assembly and test procedures.

 

Assist with transfer to contract manufacturing.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in optical engineering, mechanical engineering, or in a related field of study. Master’s degree preferred.

6+ years of hands-on experience in opto-mechanical design, preferably having worked on design of commercial products.

Detailed understanding of optical design and mechanical design rules

Knowledge of laser beam propagation and fiber optics.

Proficiency with mechanical design software such as SolidWorks.

Experience with optical design software such as Zemax.

Experience with laser-based systems is a plus.

Finite element analysis using programs like COMSOL is a plus.
