OVERVIEW:

The Senior Optical Engineer will be responsible for the optical design ownership and technical expertise for our technology.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Support continuous product development and improvement of company product; oversee the engineering and implementation of advanced technologies focusing on the  system, but also covering special projects related to the product lens.
  • Perform detailed analysis to ensure product performance, reliability and manufacturability in addition to documenting the design and development.
  • Contribute to development and implementation of manufacturing validation processes and test methods for the optical subsystem and release to manufacturing.
  • Support process improvement initiatives to enhance production efficiency, as well as ensure business continuity and regulatory compliance. 
  • Provide innovative solutions for the optical design leading to new clinical applications and improved usability and ergonomics of the device.
  • Lead and assists in the development of engineering documents.
  • Engages with the rest of the R&D team and participates in troubleshooting efforts

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Optical design experience using Zemax.
  • Demonstrated experience with complex tolerance analysis, simulation and data analysis tools for optical and thermal analysis.
  • Experience with sources and detection in UV and NIR bands.
  • Design for manufacturability, assembly, and / or reliability (thermal, vibration, shock).
  • Experience in communication with vendors regarding specifications of optical components and assemblies.
  • Manufacturing process development for medical equipment.
  • Experience with design tools SolidWorks and Pro-E desirable.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and TRAINING:

 

  • BS in Optical Engineering (Advanced degree preferred) or related discipline. Work experience in optical system design, visual optics design, product requirements
  • Experience in ophthalmic systems and medical imaging is desired.
  • Familiar with design practices for ophthalmic medical devices in an FDA-regulated environment and design for manufacturing process.
