Job Summary

The Optical Engineer works with staff and customers from first contact through project completion with responsibilities for quoting, designing, documenting, aligning, and testing optical systems.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities of the Optical Engineer are dependent on experience and capability of candidate.  These include:

  • Design and analyze optical systems typically starting with first order layouts, and progressing through detailed design, tolerancing, and drawing generation.
  • Work with opto-mechanical team to determine mechanical interfaces to optics and degrees of freedom needed to align systems.
  • Work with opto-mechanical team to design and build metrology solutions to qualify primary optical systems.
  • Troubleshoot non-conformance issues as necessary.
  • Carefully document alignment, test, and troubleshooting data.
  • Present documented details of projects to staff and customers.

 

Qualifications

 

The Optical Engineer must have the following qualifications to successfully perform the job:

  • BS in Optical Engineering with advanced degree preferred.  Minimum of 10 years of optical engineering experience.
  • Extensive experience with Zemax, ASAP or equivalent tools.
  • Optical alignment and testing experience using alignment telescopes, autocollimators, and interferometers.
  • Familiarity with a wide variety of optical systems (e.g. multi-element lens systems, telescopes, microscopes, spectrometers, illuminations systems).
  • Able to read and contribute to engineering drawings – optical and mechanical.
  • Able to work independently and with a group.
  • Skilled at verbal and written communications using standard Microsoft Office software tools.
  • Specific strengths in lithography lens production including assembly, metrology and test are strongly desired.  Specific strengths in design and implementation of metrology systems.

 

 

A strong mechanical background and design experience with SolidWorks is desired.

 

 

Citizenship

United States citizenship is required.
