The Senior Systems Engineer will be a member of a team engaged in the final design and construction of an observatory enclosure, a ~20-story, multi-million pound rotating building and environmental control system. 

Responsibilities: 

• Lead systems engineering lifecycle processes for the enclosure group, in a model-based systems engineering environment. 

• Develop enclosure and facilities requirements, operational concepts, internal and external interfaces and ICDs.

• Maintain plans and documentation for RAMS, quality assurance, assembly, integration, test, and commissioning.

• Managing SE documentation, configuration control, and change control processes for enclosure and facilities subsystems. 

• Preparing technical reports to document the design and performance of the enclosure and facilities subsystems. 

• Deliver technical reports and presentations for reviews and conferences. 

• Contribute to systems engineering cost estimates, budgets, and schedules

• Lead the development of top-down and bottom-up system performance estimates, allocations, and error budgets

• Coordinate subsystem fabrication, assembly, integration, and test (AIT) and on-site commissioning plans.

 

Qualifications: 

 

• A BS degree in engineering, physics, or an equivalent technical discipline, MS in Systems Engineer is preferred

• 10 years of relevant experience executing all phases and processes for the systems engineering lifecycle, as applied to heavy automated electro-mechanical systems, dynamic structural systems, or relevant multi-story mechanized structures or buildings

• High-level, hands-on, expertise with systems engineering tools and processes appropriate to the development of large optical/IR telescopes and/or astronomical science instruments

• Knowledge and experience executing systems engineering efforts according to international standards (e.g. INCOSE, ISO/IEC 15288:2008)

• Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and associated standards, processes, and methods.
